It wasn't until he was 12 years old that he remembers picking up his mom's old cracked, warped neck, guitar. He would sit and watch his mom play, and figured if she could teach herself to play, so could he. Although he lost interest in the guitar he would on occasion pick it up and strum a couple of songs. His only regret was not being dedicated to learning how to play.

After high school he attended a Technical Institute in Minnesota enrolling in the power line program. On completing the course he worked short term in Iowa and Kansas for a power line contractor. In January of 1991Otter Tail Power Co. hired him, and investor owned utility. He presently is still with Otter Tail Power.

In the meantime Joey was married in November of 1991 and resided in Clear Lake until 1993. Joey then took a promotion in Lake Preston where he now resides. In 2004, Joey unexpectedly found himself divorced! Mainly because she didn’t share the same goals or beliefs in life. Joey although, was blessed with two beautiful children Devin John Denison in April of 1995, and Karly Renae Denison in June of 1997. These children are Joey’s eyes in life!!!

With a stable job and two great kids, Joey picked up the guitar again, he played in a couple of bands before joining two brothers, a cousin, and a friend in a band called Half Fast Country. He has enjoyed playing with the same group of guys (except a drummer change in the first years). It has now been 10 years playing with this group now known as "White Creek"

Joey's hobbies include hunting (bow hunting as his favorite), fishing, spending time camping with his kids and friends, listening to all kinds of music (especially the Bellamy Brothers), riding horse, and his chocolate lab, "Tank" and the best of all is just sitting down and watching a good movie with his children.

Joey's pet peeves are people who think they are better than others and people who can't accept others for who they are.

Joey claims he owes all of his blessing in life to his parents for raising him right and to God who has made his whole, happy life possible.”
